The purpose of the Multi-Sensory Equipment Program is to provide proactive sensory stimulation for mentally handicapped, visual, hearing or physically impaired children. The practice of using multi-sensory equipment to teach severely handicapped children originated in Holland and the aim is to enable multiply impaired children to learn through different sensory experiences on their own initiative in a trustful, free and no-pressure environment.The unique conditions of a multi-sensory room can motivate students to utilize their residual sight and strengthen their visual activities. Research results from these types of rooms and equipment reveal that the students exhibit positive behavior and emotions, confirming the effectiveness of this dynamic and innovative program.
